(Mostly) Bicycling America XXXXXI. Self Portrait(s) at Arcosanti, Arizona, November 3, 2016. Arcosanti is located in the deserts of Arizona, about halfway between Phoenix and Flagstaff. It is, or I suppose the best way to define it is as an idea continuously becoming that is a conjoining of ecology and architecture. In short it is a way in terms of architecture of living more closely and integrated with the surrounding natural environment. Structures are continually on the build, which is why I say it is "continuously becoming." It is alive, and not stagnant. The practice of course can be established anywhere of course; this just happens to be their headquarters. It is a place where guests may stay, take a tour of the facilities, and generally learn about the founder of what is termed "arcology" and about arcology itself. I chose the least expensive option for a room, or cell, as that's really all I could afford. Regardless of it being the least expensive option it was still very comfortable, and gave out onto an extraordinary landscape, which you can see somewhat in the reflection of the glass window which was in fact the wall on this side of the room. incredible views, and this was at the bottom of the slope.
"Surrealism, then, neither aims to subvert realism, as does the fantastic, nor does it try to transcend it. It looks for different means by which to explore reality itself." -Michael Richardson
